Xiabu Xiabu: A Stellar Dining Experience

Lion Design's Award-Winning Restaurant Design Inspired by the Cosmos

The restaurant's design theme, "relaxed party and free happiness," encourages customers to slow down and appreciate the simplicity and beauty of life. Lion Design created an artistic space with a stream of consciousness and time-space perversion, allowing customers to enjoy the slow pace of life in a relaxed setting.

Lion Design transformed the rectangular interior space into a representation of the Milky Way system using round lines, expressing the concept of time. The space is divided into various areas - open, semi-open, private, open cooking, and semi-open cooking - to cater to the diverse needs of customers.

The restaurant, covering a total of 397 square meters, is constructed using materials such as terrazzo, fireproof board, aluminum baking varnish, latex paint, and artificial stone. The design team included Yan Rong, Jingfeng Chen, Fangsen Duan, Xiaoru Wang, and Dongjie Wang.

The design incorporates elements of geometric circles and point, line, and plane constituents to create a modern, dreamy, and imaginative space. The design encourages customers to dine slowly and engage in conversation, fostering human connections.

The project, which began in August 2020 and concluded in December 2020 in Beijing, involved extensive research. The designer implemented three sets of lighting systems - day, sunset, and night - to imbue the space with vitality and human kindness, catering to different customer groups. These lighting systems present different space and time perceptions, conveying varied humanistic aesthetics.

The design faced several creative challenges, including the integration of the time-space concept. The high bar counter symbolizes the sun, the round deck area represents the earth revolving around the sun, and the seasoning platform signifies the moon revolving around the earth. This interesting division integrates the time-space concept perfectly, intertwining time, space, and humans, and conveying life's deeper meanings. The design's copyright belongs to Ming Chen, 2020.
